TIC – The Industrial Company - Marine and Heavy Civil is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator.

Position Summary: Operate one or several types of power construction equipment (i.e. loader, dozer, backhoe, track-hoe, scraper, grader, sideboom, large dump truck, large water truck, trencher); to excavate, move and/or grade material. In general heavy equipment has a G.V.W. greater than 26,000 pounds. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.

Essential Functions:

  1. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions. Calculate slopes and grades of materials.

  2. Plan, diagram and lay-out for operator's work.

  3. Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications and visualize twodimensional drawings in three dimensions. Accurately fill out a TIC Daily Equipment Walk-around Report.

  4. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as necessary.ns and specifications.

  5. Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, and point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

  6. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  7. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  8. Observe functioning of equipment to determine hazards and need for adjustments, repair or replacement.

  9. Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

  10. Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.

  11. Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

  12. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.

  13. Operate gasoline, diesel, pneumatic or electric powered equipment to move objects or material according to project specifications. Assemble and operate compressors and pumps; operate levers and pedals on assigned equipment to lower bucket or scoop up material and to lift, swing, or dump material; adjust hand wheels and depress foot pedals to drive machines and control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers and swing booms. Perform light maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines. Document maintenance logs on assigned equipment. Perform daily inspections of equipment and document results on daily log.

  14. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

  15. Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).

  16. Understand and implement Red Tag procedures relating to equipment in a safe manner.

  17. Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

  18. Be motivated and work productively.

  19. Perform all other job specific duties as requested by supervisor. 20. Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing essential job functions.

  20. Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
